How this is calculated
Maintenance calories come from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation times your activity level. A kilogram of body fat is roughly 7,700 kcal (about 3,500 per pound), so losing 0.5 kg a week needs a deficit of about 550 kcal a day.
The date assumes you hold that deficit. In practice, loss is faster in the first weeks (water and glycogen) and slows as you get lighter, because a smaller body burns less. We recalculate maintenance at your goal weight and use the average of the two, which is closer to what really happens than a straight line.
The date only holds if the deficit does. Besly sets this target for you, logs meals from a sentence or a photo, and its coach watches your real weight trend against the plan. Get Besly →
