AI calorie counter apps compared (2026)
Updated October 6, 2026
Eight calorie apps that use AI to make logging faster, side by side: how you log, what's free, what the App Store lists as prices, and who each one suits. There's no single “best” app here; the right one depends on how you like to log and which phone you have.
Who wrote this: the team that makes Besly. We have a stake in the answer, so every fact about another app comes from that app's own App Store listing or website, checked on October 6, 2026, and is linked at the bottom. Prices and features change; check the store before you buy.

“—” means the app's official App Store listing doesn't mention it; the feature may still exist. The App Store shows up to ten in-app purchase lines per app, so several prices usually mean different plan lengths, intro offers or price tests. Ratings and counts are from the US App Store on October 6, 2026.

Besly: the honest pros and cons
Where Besly is strong
- Voice-first logging: one sentence (“two eggs, toast and a coffee”) becomes an editable entry, and you fix it by talking (“make it two slices”).
- Restaurant items from 28 US chains, matched to the nutrition the chain publishes.
- An AI coach that reads your own meals, weight, sleep and steps and answers with your numbers.
- A live voice chef and 700+ recipes filtered by your calories left, time and diet.
- 25 diets (Mediterranean, DASH, keto, high-protein…) that count their own food groups.
- Start without an account; Apple Health is read-only.
Where Besly falls short
- iPhone only: no Android app and no web app.
- New: on the App Store since July 2026, with only a handful of ratings so far.
- Smaller food catalog (80,000+ foods) than the long-running apps with millions of entries.
- No import of your history from another calorie app.
- Restaurant coverage is 28 US chains; other places are AI estimates you may need to correct.
- The free version includes 3 AI meal logs and 1 coach question a day; Premium removes the limits.
Try Besly

Frequently asked questions
What is the most accurate AI calorie counter?
No independent, up-to-date accuracy test covers all of these apps, so be wary of anyone who names a single winner. In practice accuracy depends on the input: a barcode or a chain restaurant's published nutrition is close to exact, a described or photographed home-cooked plate is an estimate. Pick an app that shows you the portions it assumed and lets you correct them quickly.
Is there a free AI calorie counter?
Several apps have a free version: MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, Yazio, Lifesum and Besly. The AI features (photo, voice) are often limited or paid: MyFitnessPal and Lose It! list voice and photo logging under Premium, Cal AI's listing says food-scan results require a subscription, and MacroFactor has a 7-day trial but no free tier.
Which calorie apps let you log food by voice?
According to their App Store listings: Besly (in the free version), Lose It! (Premium), MyFitnessPal (Premium), Lifesum, and Welling (voice-to-text in chat).
Is Besly available on Android?
No. Besly is iPhone only (iOS 17.6 or later). Every other app in this comparison also has an Android version.
How much does Besly cost?
Besly is free to download. Besly Premium is $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year on the US App Store, and unlocks unlimited AI logging, unlimited coach chat, cooking with the chef and your own recipes.
