Voice logging

Voice calorie counter: just say what you ate

Updated October 6, 2026

Most calorie apps make you search a database and pick from a list, one food at a time. With a voice calorie counter you describe the whole meal in one sentence and the app does the lookup. Besly is built around that: logging a meal takes about as long as saying it.

How it works

  1. Say it. “Two scrambled eggs, a slice of whole wheat toast and a banana.”
  2. AI does the maths. Foods, portions, calories, protein, carbs and fat come back as an editable card.
  3. Correct it by talking. “Make it two slices.” The entry updates.

Things you can say

Why voice helps with accuracy

Most logging errors are skipped items and guessed portions, not database errors. A sentence carries details a search box and a photo miss: the oil in the pan, the sauce on the side, the second slice. And because logging is quick, you're more likely to log the snack you'd otherwise skip.

Other apps with voice logging

Voice logging isn't unique to Besly. According to their App Store listings, Lose It! and MyFitnessPal offer it in Premium, Lifesum supports it, and Welling accepts voice-to-text in its chat. See the full comparison. In Besly it's the main way to log, and it's free.

Know your target first

Logging only helps against a target. Work yours out with the calorie needs calculator or the macro calculator, then find meals that fit in meals under 400 calories and high-protein recipes.

Try Besly

Free for iPhone: voice and text logging included. Premium is $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year.

Frequently asked questions

How do I log food by voice?

Open Besly, tap the microphone and say the meal the way you'd tell a friend: “a bowl of oatmeal with a banana and a spoon of peanut butter”. Besly splits it into foods, picks portions and shows calories and macros on an editable card. You can also log from the lock-screen widget without opening the app.

Does it understand ounces, cups and brand names?

Yes. Ounces, cups, tablespoons, slices and casual amounts like “a handful” are converted to portions, and menu items from 28 US restaurant chains are matched to the chain's published nutrition.

What if it gets something wrong?

Say the correction: “make it two slices” or “it was skim milk”. The entry updates; you don't have to delete and re-type it.

Is voice logging free?

Yes. Besly's free version includes 3 AI meal logs a day by voice, text or photo. Premium ($9.99 a month or $59.99 a year) adds unlimited AI logging, unlimited coach chat, the chef and your own recipes.

Which languages does voice logging support?

Besly is available in English, Spanish and Turkish.
